The requirements for newbuildings are constantly increasing. Future-proof ships are expected to sail the world's oceans more efficiently, sustainably, and safely, thus supporting global efforts in terms of climate and society. The long product life cycle of ships in particular requires a broad view of the future. Shipping companies and shipyards are therefore well advised to invest in high-quality manoeuvring and energy-saving systems today in order to remain competitive in the future and meet the expectations of the global market. Becker products are international first movers in the field of manoeuvrability and energy efficiency of ships.
As the inventor of products such as the Flap Rudder or Mewis Duct®, we have developed pioneering solutions for the entire marine industry in recent years. Our newbuilding customers benefit from the latest engineering and technological knowledge and innovative solutions for every type of vessel.
As a market leader, we offer our customers advanced manoeuvring systems that guarantee efficiency, safety and environmental protection to the highest degree.
Our latest generation of Becker rudders, for example, employs special bearing materials and coatings, which minimize servicing and maintenance efforts by allowing a lubricant-free rudder
operation.
An overview of our manoeuvring products:
With the ground-breaking invention of the Becker Mewis Duct® in 2008, we have created an energy-saving device that has revolutionized the shipping industry.
By achieving average power savings of 6,5%, the Becker Mewis Duct® accounts for over 11 million tons of CO2 savings on various kinds of vessels worldwide until December 2021 – and each day thousands of tons in savings are being added.
An overview of our energy-saving-devices:
For a maximum of manoeuvring performance as well as energy-savings, we have developed the Becker Performance Package as a combination of Becker rudder and Becker Mewis Duct® (Twisted). This next level solution is perfectly harmonized via Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) calculations and is applicable to every hull form and virtually every propeller.
With LFP (Lithium Ferro Phosphate) technology, COBRA offers a safe and more environmentally friendly alternative to conventional cobalt-based cell technologies. This cell chemistry eliminates the risk of fire, for example due to a short circuit or overheating. At the same time, it offers a compact system with a high energy density.
LFP technology also eliminates the need for cobalt, a raw material that is critical in terms of environmental and social impact. At the same time, there is a high recycling rate, as the battery cell is almost completely recyclable. Our marine battery systems are flexibly scalable from 11 kWh to many MWh, DNV approved and comply with ESTRIN (IEC 62619 & IEC 62620)
